Free Beat Nation is the brainchild of Pink Martini percussionist Derk Reith. It is a Maracatu style drum line featuring the powerful Alfaia drums and a horn section with Shoehorn. Loads of funky fun. Free Beat Nation performs at the Garden Stage at the North end of the festival. The Bite is an annual food festival that benefits the Special Olympics of Oregon. The website for the event mistakenly lists another world beat band Shoehorn plays with, Fools in Paradise.
