Percussionist Derek Reith ( Lions of Batucada, Pink Martini) presides over Beat Lore, bringing folkloric rhythms from the Afro-Latin traditions into an expanded groove embracing pop, jazz and electronica layered with horns and chants from the (Northern Brazilian) Maracatu drum lines of Free Beat Nation to DJ Cachcinha's remix of street beats and Shoehorn's tap dance and sax distillation of New Orleans and beyond. Players from the various ensembles will overlap into spontaneous jams and it will be a party.
