Shoehorn will play a supporting part in this special gig. Claudinho Sorriso do Salgueiro from Rio de Janeiro, Brasil will perform Saturday December 19th at the Blue Monk. There will be a Roda de Samba session, followed by a set of MPB (Música Popular Brasileira) & Samba Funk. Rose City Samba will finish the evening. All sets will feature Claudinho on guitar and cavaquinho (steel-stringed ukulele from Brasil used to drive the rhythm)

Born into Samba in Rio de Janeiro, Claudinho has been playing cavaquinho since age 9. He later developed his skills with acclaimed cavaquinista Alceu Maia and began touring professionally 1981. Claudinho toured with the Salgueiro samba school as their principal cavaquinista between 1993 and 1995. He has performed with Brazilian greats such as Elza Soares and Elba Ramalho and toured as a percussionist with the Brazil Brasil show in the US, Europe, and Asia. Claudinho is an accomplished cavaquinista, guitar player, percussionist and singer who specializes in Samba and MPB.

The MPB set will feature Claudinho with Alexandra do Brasil on vocals, Galen Clark on keys, Martin Zarzar on bass, Charlie Doggett on Drums, Shoehorn and Derek Bondy on sax and bone, Derek Rieth & Anderson do Brasil on percussion

Rose City Samba was founded by Derek Rieth (Pink Martini percussionist, co-founder of the Lions of Batucada, and currently directing his marching band 'Free Beat Nation') Rose City Samba will play Rio-style samba for the finale with Claudinho on cavaquinho playing sambas de enredo.
