From the recording Sharitas Chemo Blues

Sharita is a belly dancer who approached me about being in my show one time. We rehearsed a few times and she came to my show at Main Street Theatre and danced a couple numbers. It was cool. Then one day she called and told me she suddenly was diagnosed with cancer. A few months after that she wrote these lyrics and asked me to record it, so I got the people together, her manager Karl booked a studio, and we recorded the song, each of us contributing a part.

Lyrics

Sharitas Chemo Blues

My Soul is Screaming! I really got the blues!
1)
When you're on chemo, you can't do the things you want to do.
When you're on chemo, you can't do the things you want to do.
When your head and eyes hurt so bad
It turns your heart black and blue.

2)
When you're on chemo, nothin' you eat feels right.
When you're on chemo, nothin' you eat feels right.
You flash hot & cold, oh,
You're shakin' and cryin' all night.

3)
People tell you be strong (!) think positive (!)
you're tough Sharita, you're brave
But that's 'cause they're scared (!) they ain't been there (!)
and they don't know what else to say
They see you hurtin', but they canÕt take your pain away.

4)
When you're on chemo, maybe less and not more is what to do.
When you're on chemo, maybe More and not Less is what to do.
Time's runnin' short(!)
but it's too long--------- for you to get through.

5)
When you're on chemo, you can't do the things you want to do.
When you're on chemo, you can't do the things you want to do.
You can cry Lord, Lord, Lord
PLEASE (cadenza) get me through.
