Mr. Shoehorn presents Zapacuerno's Panamericana with Alexandra Santos. Tap dancing saxophonist Shoehorn, aka Zapacuerno, presents an exciting program starting with the first-class trio of Dave Captein, Reinhart Melz and JB Butler. Zapa will also feature the extraordinary Brazilian vocalist Alexandra Santos and the Maracatu drumming of Free Beat Nation (Nacao Bate Livre) directed by Pink Martini percussionist Derek Reith.
Shoehorn's interest in Latin music goes as far back as his initial involvement in improvisation. He first started jamming with others when he was an exchange student in Callao, Peru at age sixteen. There he savored rhumba and Afro-Peruvian music at dances and the local speakeasy. Here he joins a wonderful singer and some stellar players from Portland's deep pool of talent to present a special night to remember.
